12 Days of Anime #4: Fatherhood in My Hero Academia

Was anyone else disturbed by the noticeable absence of Izuku’s father? We see a lot of his mother but his dad is oddly absent.

Yet we hardly notice because All Might is so darn good at filling up those paternal shoes. (and the whole scene to boot, pun intended) with his magnificent presence. His fatherly relationship with Izuku–irksome in any almost any other circumstance–was the highlight of the show for me. The look of pride when he watches Izuku slowly but surely gain the confidence he needs to become a hero just warms the cockles of the heart every single time. Indeed, we are all blessed with the people who support us in our lives–our teachers, our parents, our mentors–as My Hero Academia reiterates again and again, what truly makes a hero is not so much the hero’s Quirk, but their passionate drive to do the right thing. Especially when it’s hard.
